Local businesses came together to give Shirlington dogs a special day and to help out dogs across the region. Starting at Dogma Dog Bakery on Oct. 30, dozens of dogs paraded around the streets of Shirlington in costume. Tiny Corgis and lumbering Great Danes walked up to the doors of 13 local businesses who were waiting with treats. The $10 to participate went to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue, a local nonprofit dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected, and abandoned animals from euthanasia. Lucky Dog travels to high-kill shelters throughout the region to collect dogs at risk of euthanasia and brings them to shelters with higher adoption rates in the D.C. area.

“This is a lot of fun,” said Elise Pittrizzi, who works at the Dogma Dog Bakery, “but the best part of today is raising money and awareness for Lucky Dog.”
