Opinion: Letter to the Editor: A Broader Look at Immigrant Protection

I recently read the article titled “Advocating for Immigrant Protection” (Connection, November 8-14, 2018) and I was taken back in many ways. Fear seemed to be the driving force behind this particular movement in the sense that everyone was advocating for their individual concerns, not the concerns of the community, which seems to be a dragging problem throughout our nation. After I was done reading this article, I pondered what it meant to me and I found this: we are all one community, one extremely diverse community, and we only want the best for our kids/schools/neighborhoods, but we all have very different ways of trying to fix the problems in our community. This topic is such an important one, but because it is important we need to discuss it fully and dissect all the problems and solutions we may find.

Personally, I do not think we will ever find a cure to this problem, we will just find a bunch of band aids to stop the pain temporarily, and that is not bad, for now. Thank you for starting this conversation and keeping your community involved.
