Mary Alva McNey Jacobs, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Alexandria and Washington, D.C. died March 16, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, David Edward Jacobs, Jr. She was the devoted mother of one daughter, Barbara.
Alva was born in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1923 to Mary Irene Bartels and Walter Alexander McNey. She attended Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C. graduating in 1941. Alva married David Edward Jacobs on Oct. 4, 1942. She worked at the Department of Justice during WWII while her husband was wartime in the South Pacific. In 1946 Alva and her husband welcomed a baby girl and she became a full time stay-at-home mother.
Alva and her husband lived at 710 Chetworth Place, Alexandria for 50 years. During this time Alva did art and crewel work.
Alva is survived by a sister, Irene Bergman of Rockville, Md.; daughter Barbara J. Evans and her husband Richard of Boynton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Thomas Evans and Wende Bardfeld; and six great-grandchildren, Hayden, Garrett, and Jenna Evans, and Jaxon, Landon, and Holdyn Bardfeld, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral service will be conducted at the grave site in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria on June 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Palm Beaches, Fla.
